Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists

The Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES) is a national organization founded in Houston in 1963 for independents, small business owners or consulting earth scientists. Its members are involved in oil, gas and other natural resources and include geologists, engineers, geophysicists, geochemists, paleontologists, petrophysicists and other earth scientists and associated parties. Each member of SIPES is certified as a Professional Earth Scientist. This process provides a service by helping to insure the highest competence and professional business ethics for its members in the scientific community.

SIPES has over 1,300 members in 20 states. Our local chapter was the founding body and remains very active (204 active members)  although the national headquarters are now in Dallas.  Please contact us if you are interested in joining this great network. For more details please visit our Membership page.

Profile

SIPES maintains a Referral System for Consultants and a Membership Directory in order to match consulting members with companies requiring the services of a qualified earth scientist.  The Houston Chapter also maintains a list of companies that are interested in buying an interest in oil and gas drilling ventures or producing properties.

In addition to special educational and social events, we have monthly lunch meetings with technical presentations and comaraderie on the third Thursday of each month.  Our meetings are at the Petroleum Club on the top floor of the Exxon Building in downtown Houston.
